2023 Cresskill Alpine Baseball / Softball / Kickball

Cougar News

March 28, 2023

Cresskill Alpine Baseball & Softball's main objective is to promote the sport by teaching youths from both Cresskill and Alpine develop solid baseball foundation by teaching them basic baseball fundamentals, establish commitment for continuous improvement and development of high level baseball skills, put in hard work for success, be competitive and win games, but accepting that winning will never become more important than teamwork, leadership, and good sportsmanship.

This mission is not only for players but for the Cresskill and Alpine baseball community as a whole including family members and volunteer coaches.  Although being competitive is encouraged and welcomed, the CAB Association's primary focus is promoting the sport of baseball and softball.  The association measures success not by the number of wins, but rather, player retention.  Championships are just icing on the cake!

Hello Everybody.

The registration site for 2019 Cresskill Alpine Baseball Season is now open. Go to the official Cresskill Alpine Baseball website (www.cresskillalpinebaseball.com) and click on the REGISTER button on the top right to start the process.  We will keep the site open until mid March.  At that point, we will close the site so the coaches can start assembling teams for the in-town season.  As part of the registration process, you may be prompted to provide 'proof of residency'.  This is not a requirement.  You can bypass that requirement and continue the registration process.  As of right now, we are planning to have Opening Day on April 6th.  Practices for 3rd grade and above will likely start a few weeks prior to April 6th, weather permitting.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to e-mail us.  Thank you.

Sunday, May 13, 2018 (Happy Mother's Day!)

Hello Parents,

Cresskill Alpine Baseball is now starting to plan for our summer travel team program and we would like to gauge how many kids are interested in participating.  There are multiple age based baseball teams, however, each level will be determined by player participation and the availability of committed coaches at a particular age level.

The purpose of the travel program is to provide a more competitive environment to further develop the baseball knowledge and skills of the more highly skilled players.  As has been expressed in the past, the Spring (in-town) “Rec” baseball program is an opportunity for kids to get a chance to learn to play baseball, improve their skills and have fun.  The Summer Travel Baseball program is a more competitive game environment where expectations are set higher and players are expected to come ready to compete.  These teams will represent Cresskill Alpine Baseball in competitive play against other towns within the NEBAS League.  All candidate players must also have participated on a team in the Cresskill Alpine Baseball Recreation Program during the Spring season.  The Summer travel teams will be selected by the Team’s Coaches and League directors.

Summer Travel is not solely based upon grade level, but instead the league divisions are formed by age.  Age levels are provided below.

8U – DOB: 9/01/2009 to 8/31/2010

9U  -  DOB: 9/01/2008 to 8/31/2009

10U - DOB: 9/01/2007 to 8/31/2008

11U - DOB: 9/01/2006 to 8/31/2007

12U - DOB: 5/01/2005 to 8/31/2006

13U – DOB: 5/01/2004 to 4/30/2005

Please note that once we receive all indications of interest for the Summer Travel Team, the Board will determine which teams will be fielded.  It is possible that not all levels will be fielding teams.  Be advised that tryouts may be held to finalize rosters.  Summer rosters generally will not exceed 12 players and in some cases less.

If your child is not fully committed to playing Summer Travel Baseball, he/she will miss a number of games,  or you will be going away on vacation for an extended period of time please let us know as soon as possible so that we can take that into consideration when selecting the team.

The season will start around June 11th and regular season games will continue to July 14th, and include 2 weekday games per week with schedule to be determined.  If the team has a strong season and makes playoffs, those games will start the week of July 16th.  The estimated cost of the summer travel program, yet to be fully determined,  will be approximately $125 -$175 per player and will include (registration fee with NEBAS, insurance, cost of umpires, team baseballs, game jersey and hat, etc.)

Please contact your child’s current baseball coach if they are interested in playing Summer Travel Baseball.

DEADLINE:  Saturday, May 19th

Additional questions can be directed to Derrick Cusick or Bill Dodds.

Regards,

Cresskill Alpine Baseball

Little League Baseball and Softball

Dear Little League Parents and Volunteers,

On Thursday, May 3, USA Baseball informed youth organizations, including Little League, that effective immediately, the bat identified as the Easton Ghost X YBB18GX10 30/20 2 5/8" (or the "Easton Ghost X 30/20 5/8" at retail) has been decertified by USA Baseball and is no longer an approved bat under the USABat Standard. This applies to the 30-inch drop 10 variation of the Easton Ghost X only. Pursuant to Rule 1.10, this is now an illegal bat. At the time of this decertification notice, all other lengths and drops of the Easton Ghost X bat remain approved for play.

All parents, coaches, and umpires must check their bats and remove these bats from play if they are in possession of these bats.

Any questions regarding returns, refunds, or warranty claims for the Easton Ghost X 30/20 should be directed to Easton at [email protected].

Please visit USABat.com/Decertified-Bats for more information.

More information on how the USABat Standard impacts Little League can be found at LittleLeague.org/BatInfo.

We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you all for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely,

Patrick Wilson

Dear Parents,

We will be having the annual Opening Day Parade this Saturday April 14th @ 10:00am.

The players should be dressed in their uniforms (Game Jersey with gray pants) but wearing their sneakers rather than cleats.  We expect to have game jerseys prior to parade, but coaches will hand out  jerseys at parade if your team has not received them yet.  Please bring players down to Cresskill HS at 9:15am to meet their coaches and team.  It is recommended that parents walk with kids below the 4th grade.

In addition there is a need for parent volunteers to set up, provide bake sale items, work the tables and clean up.  Please see additional information in follow-up email and contact Joanie Kopczynski @ [email protected] if you can help out.

Thank you

Little League Baseball and Softball

Dear League Officers,

As you know, this year marks the first year in the adoption of the USABat Standard by many youth baseball organizations, including Little League® International. We greatly appreciate your understanding over the past three years as we've worked with USA Baseball to transition to this new standard.

Recently, USA Baseball has provided Little League and other youth organizations with some additional guidance on how organizing bodies, like Little League International, can make it easier for local leagues, volunteers, and players to use bats within our programs. We encourage you to review their FAQs at USABat.com, as well as the information on LittleLeague.org/BatInfo.

Effective immediately (Thursday, February 15, 2018), Little League has amended Rule 1.10 for Little League Baseball for the Coach Pitch/Machine Pitch Divisions and the Intermediate (50/70) Baseball Division and Junior League, to reflect this guidance from USA Baseball. Read the fully updated Rule 1.10 on LittleLeague.org.

Coach Pitch/Machine Pitch

Players may use approved Tee Ball bats, including those that were produced and/or purchased prior to the implementation of the new standard that have been certified using an Approved Tee Ball Sticker via the USA Baseball Tee Ball Sticker Program (USABaseballShop.com) ONLY FOR USE WITH APPROVED TEE BALLS.

Little League International encourages leagues using approved Tee Ball bats at the Coach Pitch/Machine Pitch level to only use approved tee balls in these instructional divisions to help avoid confusion as to what type of baseball should be used at any given time.

Intermediate (50/70) Baseball Division and Junior League

In addition to using bats approved for Little League play based on the USABat Standard, players in these two divisions can also choose to use bats that have been approved and appropriately certified using the BBCOR standard. All bats not made of a single piece of wood shall meet the Batted Ball Coefficient of Restitution (BBCOR) performance standard, and such bats shall be so labeled with a silkscreen or other permanent certification mark. The certification mark shall be rectangular, a minimum of a half-inch on each side and located on the barrel of the bat in any contrasting color. Aluminum/alloy and composite bats shall be marked as to their material makeup being aluminum/alloy or composite. This marking shall be silkscreen or other permanent certification mark, a minimum of one-half-inch on each side, and located on the barrel of the bat in any contrasting color.

Please note that these changes are only applicable to these levels of play within the Little League Baseball program. If you have any additional questions, please contact us at [email protected].

Thank you,

Patrick Wilson

The 2018 NEBAS Spring League will start on Sunday, April 1st, and continue through Sunday, June 10th.  (No games will be played on Memorial Day weekend.)  We recognize that Spring Break in most towns is the week of April 9th.  We will have the games "scheduled" on those dates with coaches needing to work this out amongst themselves. First round playoffs start Sunday, June 3rd.  Top four teams qualify for playoffs.  Seed 1 vs Seed 4 and Seed 2 vs Seed 3 will play.  Other teams that don't qualify can play each other this week IF THEY WISH for added games. Winners of this first round of playoffs play on Sunday, June 10th for the Championship. Top two teams get individual and team trophies.

There will be no 15U and 13U levels in the NEBAS 2018 Spring League.

The NEBAS league is a SUNDAY afternoon only league.  Due to the busy Rec Baseball seasons, we are NOT looking for games to be moved off of Sunday unless both coaches are 100% "OK" with the move.

Town Commitment and Roster Forms are available under the "2018 Spring League Forms" tab. Please send in the Town Commitment Form and league fee of $100 no later than Wednesday, February 28th.

Hello fellow Cougars.  Welcome to the 2018 Baseball Season.

The Cresskill Alpine Little League Baseball registration is now open.  Please go to http://www.cresskillalpinebaseball.com to register.  Registration will be open until March 24th.  Earlier registration is always appreciated so we can organize teams and coaches a few weeks prior to Opening Day.  This year Opening Day will be Saturday April 14th.  As always we will be looking for volunteers to assist across various activities:  assistant coaches, field prep, opening day and fund raising.  Our organization has been very fortunate to have had tremendous support from parents, volunteers and local business owners over the last 67 years of our existence.

Please also note that Little League has changed their bat rules in the past few months.  We circulated an e- mail with detailed information a few weeks back.  All bats that kids have from last year will not be eligible for use in the 2018 season.  In order to help alleviate any extra costs, we as a league have purchased bats to be used for the in-town (non-travel) programs.  There will be 4-5 bats available for shared use at all levels.  If you still wish to purchase a bat for you child, I would suggest doing so on our Dick's Sporting Goods appreciation day in March.  If you choose to purchase a bat on-line or with another vendor, please make sure that the bat has the USA Baseball logo on it.

We look forward to seeing everybody for the start of the 2018 Cresskill Alpine Little League Season.
Sincerely,
The Baseball Board

Cresskill / Alpine Little League Members

Please note that for the upcoming Little League Baseball season there are significant changes to the types of baseball bats that may be used for both practices and games.

Effective on January 1, 2018, Little League Baseball® will adhere to the new USABat standard.  All national members of USA Baseball, including Little League, of which Cresskill-Alpine Baseball is a part of, are encouraged to adopt this new standard.
Bats previously approved for use in Little League Play (Junior League Baseball and below) for the 2017 season will no longer be permitted to be used in any Little League game or practice, or other Little League function, event, or activity starting on January 1, 2018.  This new standard is known as the new USA Baseball Bat Standard (“USABat”).

For more information on the USABat standard and a complete list of bats approved through the USABat Standard, visit usabat.com.
All of Little League’s current bat regulations will remain in effect until December 31, 2017. Be aware that this new bat standard effects Little League Baseball only. There are no changes to the bat standard or regulations for Little League Softball®.

f you are considering purchasing a new baseball bat for your son or daughter for the upcoming season please make sure the bat bears the USA Baseball Licensing mark. Bats will be available to be purchased in retail stores beginning September 1, 2017.

IN ADDITION, CRESSKILL-ALPINE BASEBALL WILL BE PURCHASING A LIMITED NUMBER OF USA BASEBALL CERTIFIED BATS FOR OUR T-BALL, INTERNATIONAL, AND MAJORS LITTLE LEAGUE PROGRAMS.
